A Bundle of Phyz: MOTION

Motion may be the most overrated topic in introductory physics. It is often the first topic covered in the course, and in some courses, the pure study of kinematics can linger from August through September and deep into October. That struck me as excessive, but any physics course is largely the story as told by the instructor.

The bundle begins with perhaps the first Conceptual Physics Alive! lecture filmed, "Linear Motion". Groundwork is laid as terms are defined and examples are provided.

"Motivating the Moving Man" is a PhET-fueled sim lab that focuses on translating motion graphs into verbal descriptions and verbal descriptions into motion graphs.

"Blowout Kinematics" is a tour of the equations of motion centered around a simple (but compelling) blowgun demonstration. The demo was filmed and photographed for use in remote teaching; distance learning.

The Mechanical Universe episode "The Law of Falling Bodies" retraces Galileo's interrogation of gravitational acceleration.

"Dodge Nitro Jump" leverages a television commercial and an online projectile simulation while exercising the equations of motion.

"The Great Bullet Race" extends projectile motion into two dimensions in the classic "dropped vs. fired" bullet demonstration.

"Tavurvur Erupts" takes projectile motion video analysis to a much grander scale as we witness a volcanic eruption begin.

All items are available separately. All are print-friendly Google Docs that live on Google Drive. And all include answer keys.
